ASTM D2000 / SAE J200

Call-out decoder and builder

Paste a line call-out to read every part of it, suffix requirements included, or build one from the tables. It reads the units, grade, designation, hardness and tensile, and each suffix with its test method and temperature. How call-outs work.

The tool follows the layout and Tables 1 to 5 of the standard and the list of designations in Table 6. It does not state the pass and fail limits behind each suffix, because those depend on the designation, the grade and the edition. Read them in the current standard. A decoded call-out is a reading aid, not a quotation, a rating or an approval.

Compression set

Calculate compression set

Set = (t0 − ti) / (t0 − tn) × 100, the form used for constant-deflection tests such as ASTM D395 method B. Thicknesses in millimetres.

Specimen size, compression, time, temperature and recovery period come from the standard and your specification. This tool only does the arithmetic.

Volume swell

Calculate volume swell

Change in volume = [(M3 − M4) − (M1 − M2)] / (M1 − M2) × 100, from weighing in air and in water before and after immersion, as in ASTM D471. Masses in grams.

The default values are an arithmetic example, not a measurement. Immersion fluid, time, temperature and any drying step come from the standard and your specification.
